Digital and bucolic exhibition for all audiences from the age of eight
by Adrien Mondot and Claire Bardainne - Compagnie Adrien M - Claire B
Exhibition at CCSTI la Casemate from 28 September to 28 December 2011
STORY OF FOUR LETTERS
Horizontality X
Verticality Y
Depth Z
Time T
Four letters to describe the movement of one point in space unfolding an imaginary territory. An exhibition landscaped by mathematical paradoxes, typographical illusions and by metaphors in motion.
Strolling in a luxuriant digital space, touching by finger the algorithms, and sensing matter of light, are some of the manifold imaginary fields to discover. A walk-through, as if traversing nature, revisited ; a coincidence between geometry and the organic, between real and virtual.
THE PROJECT’S ROOTS
The first exhibition takes place in 2010, displaying graphic artwork and interactive modules developed from digital devices designed by Adrien Mondot for his performances. The installations retrace experiential research, carried on since 2006, on synthesising motion with anamorphosis.
Through investigating digital movement, these installations enquire into how, diving into space (x y z) and time (t), one can reveal an implausible world on the borderline of surrealism and abstract kinetic art from the beginning of the 20th century.
Labo #6 - Adrien Mondot invited the EZ3kiel group
Since 2008, the company has launched a series of research sessions, called laboratories.
The lab #6 took place from 26 to 30 October 2010 at Hexagone Scène Nationale Arts Sciences - Meylan.
The Poetry of the Elements
Duo proposed and performed by Adrien Mondot, computer juggler, and Yoann Bourgeois, acrobatic juggler.
COMPANY ADRIEN M & CLAIRE B
Research and creation in performing and visual arts. Performances and installations.
Since 2011, Claire Bardainne and Adrien Mondot have been the artistic directors of the company Adrien M & Claire B.
Together, they create shows and installations in the field of visual and performing arts.
Claire Bardainne is a visual artist with a background in graphic design and scenography. Born in 1978 in Grenoble, she graduated from the École Estienne and the ENSAD in Paris. Her research focuses on the intersection between images, spaces and the imaginary. In 2004, she founded Studio BW in Paris with Olivier Waissmann, which focuses on the creation of visual identities, multimedia graphics, and in particular exhibition and space graphics, and where she will work until 2010. In 2007, as part of the McLuhan Program in Culture and Technology at the University of Toronto, she initiated her project entitled Wicklow, combining drawing, micro-publishing and performance. At the same time, through graphic work and the creation of images, she accompanies the theoretical work of researchers in the sociology of the imaginary at Ceaq (Sorbonne, Paris), a laboratory focused on new forms of sociality and the contemporary imaginary. She has published the art essay-book Récréations. Galaxies de l'imaginaire post- moderne (CNRS Éditions, Paris, 2009) with Vincenzo Susca, dedicated to the imaginary of contemporary technologies and media.
Adrien Mondot is a multidisciplinary artist, computer scientist and juggler. Born in 1979 in Grenoble, his work explores and interprets movement at the intersection of juggling and computer innovation.
Initially a researcher in computer science, he worked for three years at INRIA in Grenoble, where he imagined and designed new graphic creation tools that were free of reality. During this period he also developed a practice of street arts with improvised and jumbled musical performances. Noticed in street festivals, he founded the Adrien M company in 2004 in order to participate in the Jeunes Talents Cirque operation, of which he was the winner the same year. It is then a question of closely mixing digital arts, sound, juggling and movement, exploring the links between technological innovation and artistic creation. Using the tools he develops, he frees himself from the rules of weightlessness and time, blurs the lines, plays with the art of the circus and computers in a work of magical, choreographic and poetic illusion. He also works with a number of collaborators, notably Kitsou Dubois, Stéphanie Aubin, Ez3kiel and within the undisciplined research laboratories that he regularly organises and which allow him to feed his reflections and research work. He also participated in the creation of Wajdi Mouawad's show Ciels, created in 2009 at the Avignon Festival.
With Cinématique, he won the Grand Prix of the jury in the international competition "Danse et Nou- velles Technologies" organised by the Bains Numériques festival in Enghien-les-Bains.
In 2010, Claire and Adrien met at the Centre des Arts d'En-Ghien-les-Bains, then around the creation of the interactive digital work Sens dessus dessous for the Auditorium Theatre in Poitiers. In 2011, they joined forces and founded the company Adrien M & Claire B. The creations are composed by four hands and the direction of the company is done in pairs. Going beyond the space and the temporality of the stage is one of the strong axes of the company's transformation.
They co-signed the creation of the interactive exhibition XYZT, Les paysages abstraits. In 2011, they also created the conference-show Un point c'est tout, and signed the digital creation of Grand Fracas issu de rien, directed by Pierre Guillois. In 2013, they created Hakanaï, a choreographic piece for a dancer in a box of images. And in 2014, with Mourad Merzouki / CCN de Créteil et du Val-de-Marne / Compagnie Käfig, they co-created the show Pixel. In 2015, the SACD awarded them the prize for interactive creation. That same year, they produced and signed the show Le mouvement de l'air. In 2016, Éditions Subjectiles published La neige n'a pas de sens, a first monograph devoted to the work of Adrien M & Claire B, with a first series of works in augmented reality. In 2017, the body of installations entitled Mirages & miracles was published.
At the invitation of the Opéra de Lyon, the solo Vanishing Act is created in October 2020 with the dancer Tyler Galster.
In 2021, Faune, co-signed with Brest Brest Brest, is a series of 10 large-format posters to be viewed with the custom-developed augmented reality application.
Today, the Adrien M & Claire B company is made up of about thirty collaborators, with two exhibitions and three shows on international tour. Its offices are located in Lyon and since 2020, its creation workshops and rehearsal space are located in Crest in the Drôme at the Villa
