The Atelier Cahiers retrace activities in a residency and report on scientific, technological as well as artistic research carried out during this period of collaborative research. The next Cahier, dedicated to La Terca Luce will be published in November 2013.
LES CAHIERS N°8 - EZRA - Organic Orchestra Co.
The Atelier Cahiers n°8 retrace Ezra’s residency. Back in 2011, when Ezra met with members of the Atelier Arts Sciences for the first time, no one could have foreseen that such a long story encompassing art, science and technology would be woven between the team from Atelier Arts Sciences and his company, Organic Orchestra.
The story intertwining tradition and modernity has taken several forms , but Ezra’s residency mainly focused on the development of an interactive glove.
LES CAHIERS N°7 - Michele Tadini & Angelo Guiga
The Atelier Cahiers n°7 give an overview of the scientific, artistic and technological research conducted during the TERZA LUCE residency.
They retrace the two-year work at the Atelier completed by Michele Tadini, composer and Angelo Guiga, technology expert, researcher on synchronicity between sound and light, and synaesthesia.
LES CAHIERS N°6 - Aurélie and Pascal Baltazar
Residency 2010/2011 - A.R.T.S. Prize 2010
The Cahier n°6 introduces the reader to research and experimentation shared between artists and scientists.
This research residency has given birth to a particularly qualitative collaboration between various participants of the project. Being open to all enquiries and suggestions by the CEA scientists, artists probed deep and explored layer by layer questions in the realms of physics, technology and philosophy related to light.

Residency 2009/2010/2011 - Welcome to Adrien Mondot’s world
With Adrien Mondot, a new path was discovered. He was accompanied by the Atelier Arts Sciences and Hexagone Scène Nationale Arts Science - Meylan over a period of three years : an experience, which took place in Meylan and Grenoble, as well as at numerous other venues, which received and supported his work on several continents. Adrien Mondot is a juggler and computer scientist. His sense of poetry adds to his talents of being a juggler and computer scientist, and makes him an artist.
LES CAHIERS N°4 - EXEO - Valérie Legembre
The installation by Valérie Legembre, fine arts photographer in the CEA laboratories, has set off a different kind of residency compared to the ones we have hosted since 2007. For a long time, Valérie Legembre has shown a keen interest in the infinitely small and we could clearly follow her transition from the micro- to the nano-world (residency at STMicroelectronics) over the past few years, with the aim of producing artwork through the Peaux-de-photos® process. For the Atelier Arts Sciences, this residency is a breakthrough from several points of view : it was instigated by an in-house team, stems from fundamental research instead of applied research and concerns fine arts rather than performing arts.
LES CAHIERS N°3 - Cie Les Rémouleurs - Olivier Vallet
Residency 2010 - A.R.T.S. Prize 2009
The Goldilocks and the 33 variations project was awarded with the first international A.R.T.S. Prize launched in 2009 by the Atelier Arts Sciences. With this call for projects the Atelier has opened its doors to new artists and scientists already working together as a team on a joint research project. Facing a large variety of technological projects, it was a poetic entry that came the closest to the jury’s heart by opting for a research on soap film.
LES CAHIERS N°2 - EZ3kiel - Yann Nguema
The second Atelier Arts Sciences residency spanned two years of collaboration between the EZ3kiel contemporary music group and CEA scientists. Along the way, it opened its doors to another ERASME collaborator, Rhône Multimedia Centre. The residency has produced a dual outcome : The Poetic Mechanics installation by the EZ3kiel at the CCSTI in Grenoble and concerts equipped with an interactive balloon at Hexagone Scène Nationale Arts Sciences - Meylan. The idea of diversion was a constant and inherent part of this residency.
LES CAHIERS N°1 - Cie Lanabel - Annabelle Bonnéry
First Atelier Arts Sciences residency, Virus//Anti-Virus, took its name from its final outcome, a stage performance. The residency brought together for several months a choreographer/dancer and a researcher in data processing to investigate the relationship between art and technology, artistic gesture and music production through the latest miniaturized motion detector developed at the Micro-Systems and Communicating Objects Department (CEA/LETI/DCIS) : the “ Motion Pod ”.
