In Autumn 2002, Hexagone Scène Nationale in Meylan launches the Rencontres-i Festival of Imaginations, a cultural event bringing together artists, scientists and firms and dedicated to building crossroads between different ways of imagination while boosting creativity. Since the first edition of the festival, CEA has been providing its contribution to realizing this groundbreaking experience. Having co-organized four festivals and numerous shared projects, the two organizations joined in a mutual commitment to go further in this cross-fertilization by founding the Atelier Arts-Sciences in 2007, a research and experimentation platform shared by artists and scientists.
organising prolific encounters between artists and scientists
investigating the intersections of arts and sciences in a novel and innovative way
prompting new insights and stimulating imagination
OBJECTIVES
Enabling each and every one to build their own vision induced by advances in scientific knowledge and new technology adaptation
Enhancing arts and technology through stimulating each participant's creativity
Confrontation of differing experiences and viewpoints in order to enrich respective working methods
OPERATIONS
Research residencies give the opportunity for artists and scientists to work together for a certain period of time from a few days to several months. A Scientific and Artistic Committee composed of external members highlights the Atelier's research policy and specifies the residencies' research topics. Research topics are validated by the directors of the two organizations. The Atelier Arts-Sciences operates with a joint team of Hexagone Scène Nationale and CEA Grenoble.
OUTCOME
Residencies are followed-up by an epistemological study. Les Cahiers de l’Atelier report as research progresses. Each residency leads to a public presentation suited to each particular research topic: a stage production, presenting a new device, software, methodologies…
