Atelier Arts Sciences

In 2007, Hexagone Scène Nationale Arts Sciences - Meylan teams up with CEA to establish a joint research laboratory uniting artists and scientists. In November 2011, they are joined by the CCSTI - La Casemate, Grenoble

STARTING POINT

In Autumn 2002, Hexagone launches the "Rencontres-i Festival of Imagination", a cultural event bringing together artists, scientists and firms. Their objective is to cross imaginations and boost creativity. Since the first edition of the festival, CEA has been providing its contribution to realizing this groundbreaking experience. Having co-organized four festivals and numerous shared projects, the two organizations joined in a mutual commitment to go further in this cross-fertilization by founding the Atelier Arts Sciences in 2007, a research and experimentation platform shared by artists and scientists.

The Atelier Arts Sciences is a joint initiative by Jean Therme, Director of CEA Grenoble and Antoine Conjard, Director of Hexagone Scène Nationale Arts Sciences - Meylan.

Our mission

- Encourage questioning and imagination

Our objectives
- Enable each and everyone to build their own vision induced by advances in scientific knowledge and new technology adaptation.

- Enhance arts and technology through stimulating each participant’s creativity

- Benchmark experiences and viewpoints so as to enrich respective working methods.

OPERATIONS : Residencies

Research residencies give the opportunity for artists and scientists to work together over a period of time from a few days to several months. The Atelier Arts Sciences operates with a joint team of Hexagone Scène Nationale Arts Sciences - Meylan and CEA Grenoble.

OUTCOME

Residencies are followed-up by an epistemological study. The Cahiers de l’Atelier report on the research as it progresses. Each residency leads to a public presentation suited to each particular research topic : a stage production, presenting a new object, software, methodologies…
